Students do not apply for membership in the National Honor Society; rather, membership is considered an honor which is bestowed upon a student by an appointed faculty committee on behalf of the school faculty.
All sophomores, juniors and seniors who achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 are eligible for selection to the National Honor Society. Academically eligible students receive a student activity information form from the chapter advisor after the first semester cumulative grade point averages have been computed. This form is returned to the advisor by the stated deadline and is then used by an appointed faculty committee of five members in determining a student’s qualifications for membership based upon the information provided in regard to character, leadership and service. Completion and submission of the student activity information form is not an application for membership, nor a guarantee of selection for membership.
If a candidate is not selected for membership by a majority vote of the appointed faculty committee, he or she becomes eligible for reconsideration the following academic year provided that a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 has been maintained.
