Team Earth comes to Rosecrans!

Alex Lewis is a senior at RHS. She has always been interested in the environment and “Going Green”.  Alex and her family, especially her mother, are vigilant about recycling. Because of her mother's active involvement in protecting the environment Alex became very excited and enthusiastic about starting a recycling program for our school. This past summer she worked diligently to create the recycling program, "Team Earth" for Rosecrans.  Due to her efforts Rosecrans is now recycling paper, pop cans, plastic bottles, etc. to help protect our environment.  She is also instrumental in establishing a recycling club at Rosecrans.

Alex is volunteering at a recycling convention in Columbus this November where she hopes to learn many ideas about recycling to bring back to RHS. She would love to continue working with the environment and the “Go Green” movement in college as a minor. She wants to major in Medical Dietetics at Ohio State University next fall.

"I think recycling and conserving are such great causes because we only have one Earth and it is about time we start taking care of it!"  ~Alex Lewis

It’s a new year at BRHS and it’s about time that we GO GREEN! Rosecrans has received monetary donations locally from Muskingum Iron & Steel and nationally from Keep America Beautiful, a non-profit organization that works to better the environment. With this money, Rosecrans will soon be purchasing recycling bins and containers to go in every classroom, the teachers’ lounge, gymnasium, office, and Dury Hall. The bins will be blue with a recycling logo printed on them so the next time you see one, RECYCLE!

Rosecrans is also partnering up with terracycle to promote upcycling or turning trash into new products. We will be collecting drink pouches, chip wrappers, candy bar wrappers, cookie wrappers, energy bar wrappers, and plastic Ziploc bags. Separate bins will be placed in Dury Hall for these products so instead of throwing the candy bar wrapper from lunch away, just recycle it. And the best part? RHS can earn money by just recycling these products!
